It’s that time! The engines have been tested, the mooring lines are stowed, the pilot is aboard. We’re now ready to ‘take departure’ on this year’s adventure! Whether you’ve visited us at a one of our ‘Windy Warm-ups‘ or heard about us another way and are ready to jump in, here’s the station bill (duties assigned to the crew)!

Maritime Explorers Club

For our Explorers (that’s youth that completed 5th grade but hasn’t completed 8th grade), click the appropriate link below to download and complete the the paperwork and bring it to the FOYC Sailing Base (or fill it out there). For those who are not currently registered with another BSA unit, please be sure to bring $50 (checks should be payable to “Laurel Highlands Council”) for the registration fees (or be sure to fill out the registration assistance application found in the forms).

It’s very important that you come and sign-up in person so we can ensure we have enough Explorers to start the Club. However, we’re all busy so if you can’t make it but still want to be part of the fun send a copy of the application electronically to yellowcreekseascouts@gmail.com to get started!

Sea Scouts

For our Sea Scouts (that’s youth that completed 8th grade to age 20), click the appropriate link below to download and complete the the paperwork and bring it to the FOYC Sailing Base (or fill it out there). For those who are not currently registered with another BSA unit, please be sure to bring $138 (checks should be payable to “Laurel Highlands Council”) for the registration fees (or be sure to fill out the registration assistance application found in the forms).

Adults

We always can use the help from motivated adults who want to help play a role in either of our programs! Not Old Enough To Join Us?

Showed up to one of our open programs and disappointed that your child is a too young for the program? Check out the sailing membership at our Chartered Organization, the Friends of Yellow Creek (“FOYC”). This is a family membership that would allow you participate in separate but similar activities as the weekly events that the Explorers will be taking part in during their summer weekly meetings. Plus, its a great way for families to begin learning how to sail together for adults that are interested in learning the ropes!

Why:	Parents – To sign your youth up for this summer’s great adventure! Youth – Be prepared to go sailing (weather permitting) and take part in other fun sailing-related activities!

Building off of all of the fun experiences last year introducing youth to sailing, we’re excited to announce our schedule for this spring. If you are interested in joining our Maritime Explorer Club or our Sea Scouts Ship, we hope you’ll drop by one or both of our upcoming ‘Windy Warm-Ups’ in March and April to learn more about these programs. More importantly, we’ll be holding our official sign-up night at 1800 on 15MAY24 at the Sailing Center. While more information regarding the meeting and paperwork required to get your scout signed up for either of our groups, we hope you’ll circle this date in your calendar. It’s important that we are able to sign up the minimum amount of Scouts for each group at this meeting to ensure that each group can become official Boy Scouts of America units. Plus, your Scout will have all the bragging rights of being one of the unit’s plankowners!

Finally, what’s all this talk and paperwork good for if we don’t get to get out on some boats and try our hand at them? Assuming we get the requisite number of members for the Club and the Ship, they’ll begin meeting on a weekly basis each Wednesday in conjunction with the Friends of Yellow Creek’s ‘Windy Wendesdays’ community sail program. Does your Scout have to attend every Wednesday? No, but we think they’ll definitely miss the days they aren’t able to make it!

10 Year-Olds Entering 5th Grade

For our Explorers entering 6th-8th grade, please complete the paperwork you received in your folders (or which can be downloaded here) and bring it to the FOYC Sailing Base this Wednesday, 23AUG (in addition to your usual sailing gear). For those who are not currently registered with another BSA unit, please be sure to bring $103 for the registration fees (or be sure to fill out the registration assistance application found in the forms).

Can’t make it Wednesday but still want to be part of the fun? Send a copy of the application electronically to yellowcreekseascouts@gmail.com.

Sea Scouts

For our Sea Scouts entering 9th grade to age 20, it looks like we’re going to have to do some more tacking and jiving to get the requisite number of members to start a Ship. With this in mind, if you are interested in joining, please also complete the paperwork you received in your folders (or which can be downloaded here) and bring it to the FOYC Sailing Base this Wednesday, 23AUG or send a copy of the application electronically to yellowcreekseascouts@gmail.com. Once we have the requisite number of applicants we’ll reach out to everyone and set up an official sign-up night!

Alternatively, those who are aged 18+ and have an interest in the program are encouraged to contact us to discuss potentially coming aboard and assisting with our Explorer Club Program.
